The idea of being an architect
has matured in me and I consciously know that my future is in design innovation
that brings solutions, which improve local and global environments. My
disposition toward art and life is to improve people’s lifestyles within a
community, a country, and the world in general, which was evident from the
first year of my studies. I am interested in finding the best solution for the
operation of a building, to combine the aesthetics of the exterior
configuration with the interior of the building, study lighting and ventilation
and the use of materials that blend in with the surroundings and be ecological
if possible.
Having gained valuable experience
from my internships so far, while I am still working in an architecture office
getting involved with various projects, I strongly believe that having a
Bachelor Degree in Architecture will help me grow as an individual and as a
professional by developing my knowledge and skills.
It is hard to express with words
how important Architecture is for me. It is not only a way of creating art; it
is a way of living. I have imagined myself designing buildings that will make a
difference in the world. I feel prepared to face all the challenging projects,
which I am likely to meet. I am willing to learn and work hard to achieve my
ambitions and fulfill my dream to be an Architect.
I recently visited the Acropolis
Museum in Athens, Greece; a magnificent exhibition of Greek marbles
illustrating the civilization and culture from 500 BC. It is an exquisite
building of 25,000 square meters by architect Bernard Tschumi; one of Greece’s
most attractive buildings. What really impressed me, was the ambient light, which
was one of the basic design concepts, and it is very well used here. In the way
it is designed and constructed, it offers to the visitor plenty ambient light,
as well as a great view to the Acropolis Rock.
There are many architects I
admire and for whom I believe they have contributed to the evolution of
architecture. My favorite architect is Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe; an architect
with a very simple way facing the location, the materials combined in and the
open space he designs for unobstructed interior view of the building, feeling
the clear minimal lines. I am a follower of his theory “less is more”.
Two works of architecture I would like to experience in person are Frank Lloyd’s Wright Falling Water house; the most representative building of him, and the Burj Al Arab in Dubai by Tom Wright; which stands on an artificial island. Both buildings are very interesting in the way they are constructed and placed, blending fully with the environment.
